St. Ignatius’s Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) helps parents of school-age students, not attending Catholic schools, to educate their children in the knowledge of the Faith, and most importantly, to grow in a deep, lifelong relationship with the God who loves us more than we can imagine.  Under the direction of our pastor, Father Andrew Brownholtz, PREP is guided by Annmarie Flanagan, Director of Religious Education.

Our students from grades K to 8, as well as our special needs class, meet once a week for 75 minutes, from September to May.  Parents can choose from three sessions:  Sundays, 10:35 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.; Mondays, 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.; or Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.  In addition, we offer a Family Catechesis Program, which allows parents to become more involved in their children’s religious education, and at the same time, gain a greater knowledge of the Faith themselves.

After completing a Catechist Orientation Course and Safe Environment Training, volunteer catechists teach our students while aides assist them in the classroom and at the door.  The Archdiocesan Office for Catechetical Formation also offers various courses for catechists throughout the year.

Following the Guidelines of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, our spiral curriculum first introduces young children to a loving God who lives in a Trinitarian relationship and invites them to be a part of that community.  As the children progress through the various levels, they continue to learn about God, our Beliefs, the Church, the Sacraments, and Morality, and at the same time, they develop their relationship with God through Prayer and Scripture.  Post-Confirmation students probe more deeply into the Bible and especially focus on Jesus in the Gospels.

Additionally, second grade students prepare for the reception of the Sacraments of Penance and Eucharist.  Seventh grade students prepare for the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation.  We do make accommodations for students who want to receive the Sacraments but are beyond the usual grade levels.  Annmarie and the parents work this out together.
